Religious Trauma

Respecting that everyone has their own opinions, beliefs and personal experience with religion, I’m hoping to provide a safe space for others to process the effects of religious trauma in their own life. Whether you have left a religion or set of beliefs in your life or are still devoted and involved in a religion, my goal is to provide support, validation, understanding and resolve for past experiences that keep you feeling stuck, shamed, guilty, or simply not good enough. Understanding fully that participating in any faith or religion is a personal choice, I’m simply here to help you thrive in the environment that makes you feel safe, connected, free of shame and guilt, and allows you to be your true authentic self, knowing that you are absolutely good enough just for being you, each and every day. Period. Learn more about how I can support you here.

The effects of Religious Trauma can cause:

-deep inner feelings of shame and guilt which can lead to subconscious beliefs of not being good enough, not being lovable, not being worthy, and not being important.

-anxiety, depression and even PTSD.

-unhealthy relationships (especially on an intimate level)

-lack of self-esteem, caused by judgement or perceptions of judgement and expectations (both spoken and unspoken)

-an overwhelming fear of divine punishment and shame

-Codependency (needing approval and acceptance from others, people pleasing and putting others needs before yours for fear of rejection, a lack of boundaries and a loss of true self)

-you to feel trapped in your circumstances for fear of judgement, guilt and shame.

As a Somatic Trauma Informed Coach, I understand how the body processes many forms of trauma, including religious trauma. I want to empower you to discover your deep somatic beliefs of who you are so that you can thrive in the environment you choose for you.

Healing from my own religious trauma has allowed me to live my life more fully knowing that I am good enough, just for being me.

Religious leaders, teachers, cultures and communities may or may not intend to create feelings in others of shame, guilt and fear along with setting unrealistic expectations or threatening acceptance. What matters is your perception of it all and how your body reacts physically, emotionally and mentally to those feelings. That is what we will work to heal. Through somatic coaching techniques and nervous system regulation tools, you will feel empowered, with a renewed sense of purpose knowing your worth without the approval of others. We will work together to restore, renew or even create a whole new set of beliefs that align with your authentic desires and overall wellbeing.
